Jessica Brach, Events Coordinator for Uchi Restaurant, is a native Houstonian born into the restaurant industry. Her father owned a French restaurant in Humble called Chez Nous which she began working at, at the age of 5, and has now spent 31 years in the industry . Jessica says "The biggest obstacle I’ve had to overcome in my life was the ever-lingering question, ‘What will I do with my life?’ Eventually I had to stop worrying about what I was going to do with the rest of my life and just focus on the fact that I am absolutely in love with Uchi and at home here.

By Darra McMullen, Women’s Health Network Writer/Researcher With summer upon us, we begin to take a more relaxed, carefree attitude toward life, and we begin thinking thoughts of various outdoor activities to pursue.  Relaxation, vacations, and family fun are very important aspects of life, but let’s not forget to protect our skin while we kick back and play. Tip #1:   Be sure to drink plenty of plain water.  Our skins look best and are at their healthiest when well hydrated.  Always offset the consumption of skin drying substances, such as caffeine, certain prescription drugs, or excess sodium or sugar with some extra water.  Your skin (and body in general) will thank you. Tip #2:   Wear sunscreen to prevent the possibility of sunburn (in susceptible people) and to prevent sun damage to the skin (in anyone).   The more regularly you use sunscreens, the lower your risk of skin cancers as well. By Darra McMullen, Women’s Health Network Writer/Researcher Because the month of May features the Women’s Health Week national observance, this month would seem to be the perfect opportunity to contemplate women’s health issues that we should be cognizant of all year. To begin, let’s think for a moment about the frequently heard admonishment of “Know your numbers.”  The idea behind the statement is a sound one, but what exactly does it mean? Generally, the cautionary quip refers to being aware of your readings for blood pressure, cholesterol, weight, and blood sugar, and additionally, the statement encourages us to go have those items measured at a doctor’s office if we have not done so recently.Certainly, evaluating these critical aspects of health is very important to do and taking any needed corrective action for health improvement on these measures is advisable, but our need to “know our numbers” doesn’t end there.  A variety of other crucial health issues can’t be...
