Hot Tips in Nutritional News

by Darra McMullen, Women’s Health Network Writer/Researcher               A number of interesting developments in nutrition research have been published over the past few months.   The nutrition tips fall into several categories; we will look at three genres.   To make the reporting of some of these top tips easier to read and access, the information is divided into groups by general topic name, such as “digestive health”, “mood and memory”, and “cardiovascular health”.

The Women's Home Announces Chief Executive Officer

HOUSTON (March 24, 2017) The Women's Home today announced that Anna Dragsbaek will join the organization as its chief executive officer on May 1 .   She succeeds Paula Paust who is retiring after 25 years of service.

Pearl Fincher, Philanthropist and Texas Woman Who Made History

Native Texan Pearl Lilley Fincher was born in 1935. She grew up as one of 11 kids to a Baptist preacher and a homemaker in Splendora, TX.  They were extremely poor with most of her siblings and their families staying in the cycle of poverty.  Pearl wanted more.   When she and her husband met and married, between the two of them they had $60 in the bank and working 2 jobs each.  Together they started with a single used automobile business, Fred Fincher Motors in 1959.  At the time of Pearl’s husband’s death in 1996, they had 15 automotive related business operated by their 9 children.

Member Spotlight: Jessica Brach, Uchi Houston

Jessica Brach, Events Coordinator for Uchi Restaurant, is a native Houstonian born into the restaurant industry. Her father owned a French restaurant in Humble called Chez Nous which she began working at, at the age of 5, and has now spent 31 years in the industry . Jessica says "The biggest obstacle I’ve had to overcome in my life was the ever-lingering question, ‘What will I do with my life?’ Eventually I had to stop worrying about what I was going to do with the rest of my life and just focus on the fact that I am absolutely in love with Uchi and at home here.

Practical, Everyday Tips for Improving Cardiovascular Health
